Shut Up, Dude: Seven Rising Female Artists
28 September 2011
In an already big year for music, it's been hard not to notice the sheer amount of awesome female and female-fronted acts coming onto the scene, or establishing themselves at the forefront.
It's a welcome relief in what's often been a dude-dominated industry, and we're all for it: we've packed the 2012 Laneway line-up with amazing female artists and frontwomen, all of whom we're super excited to see play on these shores.
And while we can't reveal who they are just yet, we can gush about seven of our favourite rising female and female-fronted acts––some of whom, we can assure you, will be blowing minds when the festival rolls around. (For the psychic among you, we're also offering the chance to win a double pass to Laneway and a drink with one of said female artists––all you have to do is guess six female artists (or female-fronted bands) on this year's line-up. Check the bottom of the posts for deets.)
Of course, there are a heap of other great acts we could have included here: Austra, Wild Flag and Planningtorock, to name just a few, as well as some more established artists, like Feist and Eleanor Friedberger. We could go on for hours. But without any further ado, we give you seven of our favourite acts of any gender on the planet right now.
